glum and gum

she was oddly strange; that little one
she did her stunts with little joy; never enthusiastic enough
nevertheless the king clapped viciously; in hope she had some fun
his council never understood why he liked the little girl
a collection of jesters; he had to choose her
an irony she'll be, a misfit in the king's puzzle
that there's always someone out there more miserable
than you.
